Building a new house to escape EMF radiation

Radiation-Free Building EMF Escape Shielding Plans
Plans for EMF shielding in the EMF Escape building project

The owners of this Radiation-Free Building project were motivated to build this home because of having had unfixable magnetic field radiation in their old home. Protection against radio frequency radiation (RF) and electric fields were taken serious in this home design.

A deceptive start with not assessed magnetic fields and inferior shielding in their old home

The very start of the story highlights the presence of less ethical practices in our industry though. The family had a home in a nice location in which they weren’t feeling so well. An EMF consultant was hired to assess their home who identified elevated levels of RF radiation (assessing the air) for which shielding with a cheap product was recommended. After shielding bedrooms, the family still didn’t feel well. Thank goodness they had the attitude to get another EMF consultant to assess the situation, which is what brought Allen Cheney to the home who would make some disturbing findings.

A corner property can have magnetic field radiation exposure from two sides

Before entering the home, Allen assessed RF radiation outside the property by assessing the absorption of RF in the body. Levels were found to be high which is becoming common nowadays. Allen was surprised when he assessed a bedroom for RF radiation, to find that levels were still way too high for a bedroom but less than expected, given the outside findings. It was then that he was told that the bedroom has already been shielded with ‘cheap’ shielding paint. Which clearly hadn’t done a good job.

More disturbing still was the fact that the home had not been assessed for magnetic field radiation (MF), which were present. This is something that highlights the highly unethical nature of some consultants. Magnetic fields are often impossible to fix when they come from sources outside the home, like local distribution lines (power lines) in the street. If found, you can only really hint as a consultant that the residents should consider moving home as this radiation type cannot be shielded against. By doing so, they would obviously not spend more money with the consultant in buying shielding paint or other shielding. For this reason, some scrupulous consultants will not assess for magnetic fields so it doesn’t stop them from selling products for an environment that still has a serious health burden. Highly unethical in our opinion.

GPA shielding mesh is forgiving when applying and offers good RF shielding and electric field protection

The family wanted to leave the home but felt awkward selling this problem house to someone else. They had the fortunate possibility in life to be able to turn the home into a short-term holiday rental and buy land to build on, in which they would implement radiation-free building practices.

EMF protection plan for the ‘EMF Escape’ home

With the land purchased to build on, the design for the home was decided on. Patrick van der Burght got involved to consult on the EMF radiation-free building approaches that were possible for this property. This involves anticipating EMF radiation exposure sources and suggesting ways to eliminate, distance or protect against these EMF sources as much as is possible using different approaches. This, together with costings for the approaches, is then presented to the client who decides which approach suits them.

One recommendation was to consider using a steel roof which offers a welcome level of shielding from radio frequency radiation and to expand on this by applying GPA shielding mesh to the externals of the external walls. GPA shielding mesh is easy for less experienced builders to apply and very forgiving when it comes to cutting it and reapplying sections later (when attachment brackets of scaffolding are removed for example). The shielding that GPA shielding mesh offers is not as high as T98 shielding paint but it is less costly and saves on labour costs. The combination of a metal roof and GPA shielding mesh was to provide a beautiful low-RF living environments throughout the home which it delivered in the end.

Move a home to avoid magnetic field radiation from power lines

Prior to building, a site inspection for EMF radiation was carried out. Most of our radiation-free building clients realise that RF radiation from phone towers and other transmitters only ever tends to increase over time. RF shielding is therefor a feature they want build into their home regardless of outside levels present before building starts. The main concern in a pre-build site inspection is therefor magnetic field radiation exposure on the property and near it.

Allen Cheney assesses magnetic fields
Magnetic fields from nearby power lines need to be assessed before a building can be placed

This property was surrounded by above ground local distribution lines (power lines) on two sides of the property because it was a corner property. One along their side of the street on one of the streets they are connected to and along the other street the power lines were thankfully on the other side of the street. Magnetic field exposure depends on power usage and so it should be understood that they can vary in intensity (reach) depending on the time of day and increases of power usage in the area into the future.

During the professional on-site assessment, possible findings that the client made with an amateur gauss meter are checked with professional equipment and experience. This can be done by the consultant who is in charge of the project (which does bring more experienced eyes to the site) or perhaps a more local trusted consultant can do this under the instructions of the radiation-free building consultant.

Crossing power lines at a street intersection
Corner properties are often burdened by two magnetic fields from power lines on two streets

It was found on this property that the magnetic fields reached further into the property than we wanted. Something that we often see at corner properties due to the often dual power lines they are close too. We decided to move the placement of the home further away from the street which the property was thankfully big enough for to allow. Creating effectively more front yard and less back yard, but a needed buffer zone from levels of magnetic fields that would could be a problem.

In many home designs a bedroom can often be found at the front of the home, closer to power lines and their magnetic field radiation. In case of a corner property of course two sides of the home are ‘closer’ to the street and as many bedrooms are potentially pushed into the unfixable magnetic field radiation it can leave few or non of the bedrooms with environments that we would call supportive to health.

Stay tuned for further developments on this project.

EMF Radiation-Free Building is more an investment than a cost

Considering the cost of building a home, apartment building, hotel, health resort or palace, the cost of implementing EMF radiation reduction strategies is minor. Not only will you enjoy it, or market it as a responsible advantage of your commercial venue, but it should also increase the resell value.

Incorporating EMF radiation avoidance and protection is more an investment than a cost.

Whole House Shielding

External shielding of a home with T98 shielding paint is an option when you have ongoing surfaces which you were going to be painted anyway.

GPA Shielding Mesh

GPA Mesh is a great defence against RF radiation and electric fields. With easy application it is forgiving to work with and can be applied by any builder or novice.

T98 Shielding Paint

Any painter can apply T98 Shielding Paint as this video demonstrates but we also had the shielding performance when 'amateurs' applied T98 indepently tested. The results were exceptionally good. T98 CAN be successfully used by the inexperienced.

Radiation-Free Building in Progress

Creating a home to keep you safe should include protection against the EMF radiation sources that can affect health. Here we see Radiation-Free Building in action and a clever use of panels under timber wall coverings.
