Applying T98 shielding paint is easy to do successfully for the lay person and unexperienced trades person
T98 shielding paint handles like normal paint. There are only few differences in the application which we’ll list below. An amateur or professional without experience in using shielding paint will have no issues with T98.
Differences inn applying T98 shielding paint vs normal paint

Here are some things when it comes to application of shielding paint that are good to know.
- The roller one should use is the fur type roller. Not a foam roller. This does alter the look of the paint a little when its on the surface but most would say its hardly noticeable.
- Use disposable brushes. T98 is a very healthy paint with practically zero VOC but it is a total paint to try and get it out of a brush or roller. Assume that you’ll be putting your brushes and rollers in the bin when you’re done. From one day to the next, during your project, you can soak them in some T98 and wrap them in plastic wrap to keep them ‘wet’ till tomorrow.
- It covers more. A professional painter will likely be surprised or even in disbelief that T98 will cover about 8 square meters / 86 square foot. But it does and that is even slightly conservative. Feel free to use those figures for your paint requirement calculations.
- It needs to be stirred well and OFTEN – The graphite and carbon in T98 shielding paint has a tendency to sink to the bottom of the drum. When you open a new drum, you’ll have to stir it very well. Use a drill-paint-mixing-attachement that you can buy in the hardware store. Even if you feel firmness in the bottom of the bucket, just keep stirring with the drill and it will go smooth again. Before you start using it, make sure no graphite is left stuck to the bottom of the bucket. Between paint tray top-ups, also stir your paint again briefly.

There are of course a few more things to using T98 shielding paint other than how it applies. There is issue of how many coats, where the grounding tape is meant to sit and how to ground it to a power outlet, to name but a few.
